I own two Razer Blade laptops (14” and 17”), and recently both of them started showing the exact same error:
“Secure Boot Violation – Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup.”
At first I thought it was a firmware corruption or Windows bootloader issue. But after testing more carefully, I’m almost certain this is a CMOS battery failure on the motherboard.
Here’s what I tested:
I had to enter BIOS and disable Secure Boot just to boot into the system. To confirm whether BIOS settings were being retained, I set a CMOS password, shut the laptop down completely, and left it powered off for a few hours. When I turned it back on, the BIOS password was gone. Secure Boot settings were reset again.
That’s a textbook CMOS battery issue.
What makes this more interesting is that I tested another Razer Blade unit in a different location — and it’s showing the exact same behavior. Same Secure Boot violation, same BIOS reset. That doesn’t feel like a random one-off failure.
I contacted Razer Korea (service handled by Waycos) and provided product number, serial number, and a detailed explanation of the issue. The response was basically that the model is discontinued, all official A/S has ended, and I would need to handle repairs privately.
No technical guidance.
No battery spec information.
No suggestion.
No acknowledgment.
Just “support ended.”
I understand products eventually go EOL, but this is a CMOS battery — not a GPU failure or board-level damage. It’s a basic component that naturally degrades over time. For a premium laptop line like Razer Blade, I expected at least minimal support guidance.
Has anyone else experienced Secure Boot violations tied to BIOS settings resetting on Razer Blade models?
Did replacing the CMOS battery fix it permanently?
Is this a known aging issue for certain production years?
I’m genuinely curious if this is more common than people realize.
Long-term support matters, especially at this price point. This experience definitely makes me think twice before buying another Razer product.
Would appreciate hearing from others who’ve run into the same issue.
